SnapForMac is a window snapping app for the Mac. The short version: it reads where your windows are so it can move them, it does not read what is inside them, nothing about your windows leaves your Mac, and every connection the app makes is listed on this page.
What the Mac app does with your data
- The app uses the macOS Accessibility permission to read a window's position, size, title and owning app, and to move and resize it. It does not read the text or contents of any window.
- It watches the mouse button and drags to see a window being moved. It does not watch the keyboard: shortcuts are registered with macOS as named key combinations.
- Window titles are held in memory while the Snap Layouts bar is open. They are not saved and not sent.
- The app does not ask for the Screen Recording permission and takes no pictures of your screen.
- There is no SnapForMac account. The free version needs nothing from you; Pro is a licence key.
- The app contains no analytics and no advertising code, and it sends no crash reports.
What is kept on your Mac
- Your settings: the gap between windows, whether the app shows in the Dock, and any shortcuts you changed.
- Your plan and, if you bought Pro, your licence key, so the app works without a connection.
- The count of Snap Layouts used today, for the free daily allowance.
- The last announcement fetched from our website.
All of this is in the app's own folder on your Mac. Removing the app's data removes it.
What the app tells us
One thing. SnapForMac asks our website for announcements and tells it the app's name and version. The request carries nothing else: no licence key, no id for your Mac and no plan. We keep one row per request: the version, the time and, when our hosting provider supplies it, the country. We do not keep an IP address, a licence key or a device id, and the request does not contain them. We use the count to know which versions are in use. It tells us how many requests each version makes, not who made them.
Every connection the Mac app makes
Anything not on this list is not contacted. List last changed 13 October 2026.
| To | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Our payment provider (api.polar.sh) | When you enter a licence key, when the app starts, once a day while it runs, and when you deactivate a Mac. Never if you use the free version without a key. | Your licence key, our store's id, the id of this activation and a scrambled id for this Mac. The Mac's real hardware id, serial number and network address are never sent. |
| snapformac.com | Every few hours while the app runs, to ask for announcements. | The app's name and version, and nothing else. No licence key, no id for this Mac and no plan. We count the request by version; no IP address is kept. |
| cdn.snapformac.com | A little after launch, once a day, and when you click "Check for updates". | The app's version and platform, to see whether a newer version exists, and the download itself when you choose to install it. |
Buying Pro
- Payments are handled by Polar, our payment provider and merchant of record. When you buy, Polar collects your name, email address and payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your card.
- We receive what we need to give you a licence and to answer you: your name, your email address, what you bought and when.
- To tie a key to a Mac, the app sends Polar a scrambled id made from the Mac's hardware id. It cannot be turned back into the real id.
This website
- The public pages set no cookies and load no analytics, fonts or scripts from other companies.
- When you download the app from this website, or press the buy button here, our server records that request: the IP address it came from, the country, region, city and network provider that address belongs to, your browser and operating system as your browser states them, the page you came from and any campaign tag in the link, the type of Mac and version chosen (for a download), and the time. A link in the app that opens a page of this website in your browser counts as a visit to the website.
- To find the place an address belongs to, our server sends the address, and nothing else, to IPinfo (ipinfo.io).
- We use these records to see how many people download and where they come from, and to spot abuse. We do not sell them or share them, and they are not linked to your licence or to the app on your Mac.
- To stop abuse, the server also limits how many requests one network address may make in a minute, using a scrambled form of the address kept in memory for about a minute.
- Like every website, ours is served by a hosting provider whose systems see the address a request comes from in order to answer it.
If you write to us, we keep your message and address for as long as it takes to help you and to keep a record of what was agreed.
Your choices
- You can switch the Accessibility permission off in System Settings at any time. Snapping stops until you switch it on again.
- You can ask what we hold about a purchase, or ask us to delete it, by writing to [email protected].
- To have the download and buy-button records for your IP address deleted, write to us with the address.
Changes
If the app starts making a new connection, it is added to the list above in the same release. The date at the top changes when this page does.
